Serena Williams banned from wearing 'Black Panther' catsuit at future French Opens, says tournament chief

Serena Williams has been banned from wearing her “Wakanda-inspired catsuit” – a reference to the Marvel Comics film Black Panther – at future French Open tournaments.
Williams caught the eye at Roland Garros earlier this year after donning a black bodysuit for her return to grand slam action.

More than just a fashion statement, the full-length, skin-tight outfit is designed to protect against blood clots after the American revealed doctors had found a hematoma – a swelling of clotted blood outside of a vessel – in her body following the birth of her daughter Olympia.
“I almost died after giving birth to my daughter Olympia,” Williams said. “First my C-section wound popped open due to the intense coughing I endured as a result of the embolism.

“I returned to surgery, where the doctors found a large hematoma, a swelling of clotted blood, in my abdomen. And then I returned to the operating room for a procedure that prevents clots from traveling to my lungs.”

Addressing the outfit at Roland Garros, Williams said it made her feel “like a warrior princess” and presented her with “an opportunity to inspire a whole different group of amazing women and kids.”

Williams has not worn the outfit since the French Open but it now appears she won’t have the chance to do so again.
In a surprising piece of criticism on the eve of the US Open, the French Open president Bernard Giudicelli has said Williams – and other players – will need to be more conservative at future editions of the tournament.

Speaking to Tennis Magazine, Giudicelli said: “It’s a bit late because the collections are already designed but we are going to nonetheless ask the manufacturers to let us know what is coming.

“I believe we have sometimes gone too far. Serena’s outfit this year, for example, would no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”

Williams is yet to respond to the news but the announcement has drawn sharp criticism on social media.

Super Eagles’ Traditional Attire Rated As The Best In Russia.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been rated as “team with the best travelling uniform” in Russia by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), few days to the commencement of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The rating comes days after a world fashion magazine GQ rated Nigerian Super Eagles jersey as the best for the 2018 World Cup.
The Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles, arrived in Russia this morning for the World Cup.

The Eagles departed from Austria earlier on Thursday with native attires as they chose to be different from the other 31 teams who were mostly cladded in suits on arrival.
The Super Eagles’ first match in Russia is against Croatia on Saturday, before other group games against Iceland and Argentina.

Fans SHOCKED after Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane’s announce resignation

MAURICIO POCHETTINO sent Tottenham fans into a frenzy yesterday by insisting “you have to listen” when Real Madrid come calling.
The Argentinian is the preferred candidate for the Spanish club’s president Fiorentino Perez after Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation earlier this week in the wake of this third Champions League success.

Coincidentally, Pochettino is in Spain promoting the launch there of his autobiography, ‘Brave New World’, and when he was inevitably quizzed about the link, he deliberately left the door open on a possible move.

“When Madrid call you, you have to listen,” he said pointedly.

The stumbling block, as Pochettino went on to admit, is that he has just signed a new five-year contract to remain at Tottenham worth £8.5m-a-year.

CHELSEA GIVEN THE CHANCE TO SIGN 39-GOAL WORLD CLASS STRIKER FOR FREE

This might sound crazy, but Chelsea ought to be exploring the possibility of signing former Manchester City and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli in the summer.

Our recent track-record with signing strikers has not been good. The likes of Alexandre Pato and Radamel Falcao were obviously poor acquisitions,
whereas Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata, who both arrived for hefty fees with big reputations, have struggled to make much of an impact during their time at Stamford Bridge.
Morata enjoyed an electric start to life at Chelsea, but his form fast tailed off and he has now not scored in ten games. We ought to look to the transfer market in order to recruit a new hitman, and Balotelli may well be the answer.

He’s bonkers, he’s unreliable, but he’s incredibly talented. There is a genuine possibility that he could return to the Premier League, too, as his agent has revealed. Mino Raiola is quoted by the Mirror saying:

“In Italy he’s number one. He’s worth €100million (£88m), but he’s on a free transfer and is therefore a bargain.”
“I’m negotiating with many clubs in England and in Italy. I’ve spoken with Juventus, Roma, Napoli and Inter.”

Balotelli has scored 39 goals in 58 appearances for Ligue 1 oufit Nice. He appears to have somewhat matured, and could finally be ready to lead the line for a top side.
The prospect of signing a player of his quality on a free transfer is one that we mustn’t pass up. We’d love to see Balotelli in blue – what do you think?

20-Year-Old Talented Nigerian Player Signs For New Premier League Club. Photo

West Ham have landed 20-year-old Nigerian forward Oladapo Afolayan from Solihull Moors. The player agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract.

“It’s a dream come true,” Afolayan told West Ham’s website. “I’ve worked hard to get here and I’m grateful for the opportunity. “I started out with Chelsea and was there until I was 15, then my family moved to Canada and I was part of the academy at Toronto FC.
“Then, when we moved back, I studied civil engineering at Loughborough University before the opportunity arose to join Solihull and play in the National League and it was something I couldn’t turn down.

“Now, the opportunity has come to join a Premier League club and West Ham is one which has always given youngsters opportunities to come through, as we have seen this season, so I’ve come here to get into the first team and make a name for myself.”

Afolayan will initially join West Ham’s U23 squad and could make his debut in Monday’s Premier League 2 Division 1 fixture with Sunderland .

See Photos As Argentina Coach Dragged Out In Public After Insulting A Police Officer

Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli had to be dragged away by friends as he turned on police at a traffic stop. According to reports, the coach insulted one of the officers after the vehicle he was in was pulled over as he returned from his daughter Sabrina’s wedding.
Local reports said he lost his temper after being told some of the eight people in the Ford Focus had to get out because it was too full.
Sampaoli, a passenger in the vehicle, could be overhead shouting at one of the officers as he headed back to his hotel on foot: ‘You make me walk two blocks, a**hole. ‘You earn 100 pesos (£4.20) a month, idiot.’

The video footage, taken by the driver of a car behind Sampaoli’s vehicle, was going viral in the football manager’s native Argentina on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 5.30am on Sunday in Casilda, the coach’s home city which is in the province of Santa Fe around an hour’s drive from Rosario where Lionel Messi comes from.

The woman driver of the Ford Focus passed a breath test before officers insisted the vehicle couldn’t continue with so many people inside.

Federico Censi, a city Councillor in charge of public safety, told local paper La Capital the car was allowed to continue after some of its passengers including Sampaoli got out.
He is said to have walked the rest of the way back to a four-star hotel he was staying at in the center of the city, named as the Hotel Cuatro Plazas.

La Capital said the coach’s brother Marcelo had apologized to officials afterwards in a phone call. Sampaoli has now left Casilda to begin a short holiday.

Brazilian Football Star Kaka Announces His Retirement

Former Brazilian World Cup champion Kaka announced his retirement as a player on Sunday (Dec 17), suggesting that a management career at his old club AC Milan could be on the cards.

"I am preparing to continue in football and to have a different role, but I will no longer be a professional player, an athlete," the 2007 Ballon d'Or winner told Globo television.

"I would like to take part in a club in a role more like... a manager, a sporting director - someone
between the field and the club."

Thierry Henry Reveals The Nigerian Player Who Thought Him How To Dribble

Former Arsenal Football legend, Thierry Henry arrived Nigeria yesterday, on his arrival, he revealed how former Super Eagles star, Nwankwo Kanu thought him dribbling. According to him, they were (both of them) one time teammate at Arsenal FC, he described Kanu as the most technically gifted African player he ever played with.
Henry revealed this as he was unveil as Guinness Nigeria PLC ambassador for the ‘Made of Black’ campaign which took place at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday.

The France legend and his Nigerian counterpart, Kanu joined Arsenal in 1999 and spent five years as teammates, winning two Premier League titles (2002 and 2004) and two FA Cups (2002 and 2003) together.

Henry said, “First of all, let me say Lauren (Etame Mayer, former Cameroon international) was very good and I love Lauren to bits. But if you go down to technique, I have to give it to Kanu.

“It’s just the truth. Kanu was an underrated player, so humble, nice guy, everything about him was positive.

“We all know that famous turn (Kanu’s dribbling style) that he had, even watching him on television, I was learning (Kanu’s dribbling style). He was always good and a good guy too. “Like I said, if we go down to technique, Kanu was very good. Kolo Toure was very tough, Lauren had good technique too until he was moved to right-back.”

I am hoping that Super Eagle makes it to final in Moscow on 15th July, to play against Russia - Russian Ambassador

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nigeria, His Excellency Nikolay Udovichenko says he is looking forward to Nigeria and Russia clashing in the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday, 15th July 2018.

“I want to congratulate the NFF and the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup. Please be assured that the Russian Federation is fully ready to host the competition. We have received a lot of requests from the host cities on what special characteristics the Nigerian team have. They want to be fully prepared in all aspects to receive the Super Eagles.

“From the depth of my heart, I am hoping that your team makes it to the final in Moscow on 15th July, to play against Russia.”

Udovichenko spoke on Tuesday afternoon as he received a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation, led by its President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Pinnick thanked the Ambassador for his good wishes, while noting that Nigeria’s first feel of Russian soil ahead of the FIFA World Cup ended in a sweet victory over Argentina in a friendly match in Krasnodar. “We helped you to beat Argentina because they had beaten your team in another friendly a few days earlier.

“We have good relationship with the Russian Football Federation, and we desire to establish good relationship with your embassy here so that ourselves and other Nigerians going to the FIFA World Cup will have no problems with regards to entry visa.”

Pinnick stated that the NFF has come forward this early to parley with the embassy because the football body is keen to have all visa applications treated and dispensed with latest end of April 2018.

Consul of the Embassy, Mr. Diuitri explained that football fans wishing to be at the FIFA World Cup finals in 2018 must have their match tickets and Fan ID, “which will enable them to travel round Russia during the finals at no extra cost.”

Also at the meeting were Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (NFF General Secretary), Ivan Lydkin (attaché), Ademola Olajire (Director of Communications), Tunde Aderibigbe (Head of Protocol), Calistus Ebare (Pinnick’s media aide) and Ayo Olu Ibidapo (NFF Communications Department).

FIFA Sanctions Nigeria For Use Of Ineligible Player Against Algeria

World football –ruling body, FIFA, has rejected Nigeria’s defence on the use of an ineligible player during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine on Friday, 10th November 2017, thus awarding the match to Algeria.

However, the sanction does not in any way hurt Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, as the Super Eagles had picked the ticket from Group B ahead of the clash in Constantine.
The decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee which sat on the matter read, inter alia: “The Nigeria Football Federation is liable for having breached art.55 par.1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 8 of the 2018 Regulations of the FIFA World Cup Russia.

“The match played within the frame of the preliminary competition of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia between Algeria and Nigeria on 10 November 2017 is declared to be lost by forfeit by Nigeria (3-0).” The NFF was also fined the sum of 6,000 Swiss Francs.

The match ended 1-1. Following the decision, Nigeria’s total points tally reduced by just one, to 13, while Algeria moved from 2 to 4 points.

FIFA had hinted the NFF about the disciplinary proceedings, following the use of defender Abdullahi Shehu in the said match. Shehu had received a yellow card in the match against Zambia in Uyo on 7th October 2017 (the match in which victory guaranteed Nigeria a place in Russia), making it a second for him in the qualifying race, following an earlier yellow card against Swaziland in the preliminary round. Traditionally, yellow cards issued in previous rounds of the qualifying race are cancelled going forward, but the principle did not apply for the latest series.

However, a miffed NFF President Pinnick has directed that an internal inquiry be instituted immediately and persons found culpable be dealt with. “We accept the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to fine the NFF and award the match to Algeria.

“However, this is a grave error and somebody must be punished. We apologize to Nigerians for this and assure that this will not in any way derail or even distract us in our well –laid plan to ensure that the Super Eagles have a great outing in Russia.

“At the same time, I want to assure that persons responsible for this slip would not be given just a slap on the wrist. We are actually looking at a re-organization of the Technical Department. The Technical Committee will henceforth play serious superintending role on all details, no matter how minute, in technical matters.

“It is important that all committees and departments at the NFF should move at the same pace as the Executive Committee,” stated Pinnick.

Real Madrid ‘agree deal’ to sign Neymar from PSG

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain as soon as 2019.

Neymar only left Barcelona for the Ligue 1 champions last summer, for a world-record fee of £200million.

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain as soon as 2019.

Neymar only left Barcelona for the Ligue 1 champions last summer, for a world-record fee of £200million.

But according to reports in Spain, the Brazil superstar has already come to an agreement with Real.
The forward, according to Diario Gol, will spend another 18 months at PSG before returning to Spain.

Neymar is desperate to win the Ballon d’Or and believes he has a better chance of achieving his dream with the European champions.

Real president, Florentino Perez, hinted at a plan to sign both Neymar and his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe earlier this week.

“Mbappe is 18 years old, let’s leave him to develop and see how far he can go,” Perez told El Partidazo de COPE.

“We have the best players. Recruit Neymar and wait for Mbappé to develop? That’s not a bad idea!”

BBC named Egyptian Mohamed Salah African Footballer of the Year 2017

Egyptian footballer, Mohamed Salah has been voted BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017.

Following a record number of votes, the Liverpool star won ahead of Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita, Sadio Mane of Senegal and Nigeria's Victor Moses.

The 25-year-old told BBC Sport, "I am very happy to win this award. It's always a special feeling when you win something. I feel like I had a great year, so I'm very happy. I would also like to win it next year!".
Salah started the year with AS Roma in Italy, scoring 15 goals and assisting 11 others as the side from the Italian capital finished second, their best placing in seven years, behind champions Juventus.

And now, having joined Liverpool in June, Salah's form has been so impressive that he is the current Premier League top scorer - above the likes of Harry Kane and others - having netted 13 goals in his first 16 league games for the club.

Jose Mourinho ‘Hit On The Head With Water And Milk’ After Manchester United Defeat

Jose Mourinho was involved in a dressing-room clash with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson after Manchester United’s derby defeat. The United boss is said to have had milk and water thrown at him as tempers flared following his side’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, but this claim is refuted by City chiefs.
Sources claim Mourinho went to the door of the away dressing-room to ask City’s players to tone down their jubilant celebrations.

City’s Brazilian keeper Ederson and Mourinho are then said to have shouted at each other in Portuguese before the situation was defused.

Sources who witnessed the altercation said there was a lot of shouting and a rush of people towards the door of the away dressing-room when the episode occurred, with staff from both sides involved.

United striker Romelu Lukaku was also said to be involved in the incident, along with goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro.

Up to 20 people became embroiled in the fracas which occurred in the narrow tunnel outside the away dressing-room.

City sources confirmed their coach Mikel Arteta suffered a cut above his eye.

A police officer is stationed outside the dressing-rooms on matchdays and it is understood police and stewards intervened to break up the melee.

City’s win at Old Trafford meant they have extended their lead over their neighbours in the Premier League to 11 points, to leave the Red Devils’ title challenge in jeopardy.

"I Am willing to win more" – Cristiano Ronaldo says after winning his fifth Ballon d’Or to equal Lionel Messi’s record

Madrid Star, Cristiano Ronaldo, who won his fifth Ballon d’Or ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and PSG’s Neymar at the Eiffel Tower in France, says he’s still willing to win more Ballon d’Or awards.

After being presented with the 2017 Ballon d’Or at the glitzy ceremony on Thursday, Ronaldo vowed to ‘let the fight continue’ between himself and Messi as they battle for future Ballon d’Ors.

‘I hope to play at a high level for a few more years,’ Ronaldo said when asked about rival Messi. ‘Let’s have the fight continue in a good way. He will do his best for his club and his national team.

‘And I will do my best for Real Madrid and my national team. So let’s see at the end of the day who is better and see who at the end of the year what collective awards we win and what the people voted.’

‘Of course, I feel happy. It’s a big moment in my career,’ Ronaldo said. ‘It’s something I hope to win every year. Thanks to my Real Madrid team-mates. And I want to thank the rest of the people who helped me reach this level.’

Well, the madrid star now equals Lionel Messi who has won the award 5-times – and in another context, Ronaldo and Messi have been the only two players to have won the award in the last 10 years.

Now social media users are trolling Lionel Messi who used to be the favorite to clinch the award.

If you ever say Messi is better than Ronaldo again, you need your brain checked.
