United Nations Sends Former President Obasanjo To Liberia.

The UN Scribe, who made the announcement yesterday in New York through his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, also welcomed the peaceful conduct of the second round of the presidential election in Liberia.
Liberians on Tuesday elected former football star George Weah as President making it the first time the West African country will peacefully transit from one democratically-elected leader to another in more than 70 years.
The statement by Dujarric read;
“The Secretary-General hopes that the will of the Liberian electorate will be respected and that a seamless transfer of power will take place within constitutional timelines”.
Guterres had requested Obasanjo, a member of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation, to travel to the capital, Monrovia, from Thursday, Dec. 28 to Saturday, Dec. 30 Dec.

Obasanjo, who is one of 18 global leaders, senior officials and experts on the high-level board created earlier this year to advise the Secretary-General on mediation and back those efforts around the world, has participated or led in mediation efforts in Angola, Burundi, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa, among others.

“It’s such a shame that Christmas has been celebrated, with this sort of discomfort.” — Osinbajo

His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday morning quoted the Vice President as speaking during the interactions he had with some people keeping vigil at two filling stations in Lagos.

“It’s such a shame that Christmas has been, to some extent, with this sort of discomfort.
“This is deeply regretted, and l know that, despite the resilience and strength of people in Lagos and the Nigerian people, we would see ourselves through this and will enjoy our Christmas and have a great new year,” he was quoted as telling those who were on queue to buy the scarce commodity.
He said the Federal Government was moving as quickly as it could to solve the fuel crisis and reduce the difficulties Nigerians were facing as a result.
He added, “We are trying to move as quickly as we can. Obviously, people have gone through a lot of pain and anguish in the past few days, and that is deeply regretted.
“We are trying to do what we can to move as quickly as possible and there is certainly enough products to be able to solve the problem.
“We will be able to solve the problem; the short period of scarcity is quite a bit of burden, but we know that so long as products are enough and the trucks coming out and feeding the stations, this will be over very soon.
“I am going around with the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources here in Lagos to ensure that first, the trucks are being loaded from all the depots, and also looking at the filling stations to see that things are moving on very well.
“The GMD of the NNPC is also working in Abuja to see that things are moving quickly and we are moving around the country. So we expect that it will be resolved very quickly.”
Osinbajo later took to his social media accounts to announce that he witnessed firsthand the discomfort Nigerians have been experiencing during his visits to the filling stations.
He assured Nigerians that the government is working hard to end their pains as soon as possible.
He added that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated all those concerns to bring an end to the situation.
Osinbajo wrote, “Christmas is a time of cheer, joy, and hope for the coming New Year. Many people would love to be around their families, but regrettably, cannot because of the inadequacies in the fuel supply in different parts of the nation.
“This is something that President Buhari is deeply concerned about, mandating all relevant persons to bring an end to the fuel queues.
“I witnessed first-hand the discomfort that many of us have to contend with. We sympathise with you and we are working assiduously to eliminate this pain in the shortest possible time.
“We regret this inconvenience while assuring you that all hands are on deck to return things to normalcy.
“I do hope that you still find time to reflect on the miracle of Christmas to lift your spirit and that of your family. God bless you and God bless our great nation.”

Married woman beaten, thrown inside a well by another man who refused to pay N3,000 after they had sex

Vanguard gathered that the woman, who lives in an uncompleted building at Aladura Mosque Street, White Sand, Isheri Oshun, Lagos, with her husband, Ifeanyi, and their two children, left their abode two weeks ago, after informing her family that she was going to charge her mobile phone.

Trouble, however, started for the mother of two following Isaac’s refusal to pay her the agreed sum after having sex with her in his one-room apartment at 4, Kilanko Street, White Sand, Isheri Oshun. An argument, which degenerated into scuffle, ensued during which Isaac threw Anita inside a well, abandoning her to die.
Brought out of the well
A passer-by said to have been alerted by shouts for help from the well, raised the alarm and Anita was rescued. Ekpeyong was, thereafter, rushed to two private hospitals in the area, unconscious, but was rejected.
She was then taken to the Isolo General Hospital by the Police, where she was treated for a week before being transferred to another hospital, where she underwent another round of treatment before she was discharged, weekend. During interrogation, she said: “I did not know the man before.
He only stopped me and asked how much I would take for the service and I said N3,000. But when he finished he refused to pay.
“Rather, he threatened to kill me and dump my body in the bush. He started dragging me out of his house and at the same time hit me on my head.
“He collected my Nokia Android phone and the money I had earlier worked for. He covered my mouth with cloth to prevent me from shouting and gave me a hard fist on my jaw, which forced a tooth to fall off.
“He dragged me out of his compound to about five buildings away from his. At a point, I was so weak and passed out. The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself inside a well.
“The luck I had was that the water level was just up to my chest. That was when I yelled for help.” At press time, the suspect, Isaac, was still on the run. Vanguard observed during a visit to his apartment that the only property he had was a bed.
His rent expired in March—Suspect’s landlord His landlord, identified simply as Okwuchukwu, stated that the victim’s rent had long expired and that he had issued him notice to quit. He said:
“He moved into this house in January 2016. His rent expired at the end of March 2017. Since then he has not paid a kobo. The notice to quit issued him expired in October. I have taken him to several places to ensure he leaves my house.
“While we are still on that issue, I came back home from work on December 12 only to be informed that he brought a married woman home, slept with her and instead of paying her, beat her and threw her inside a well.”
Vanguard gathered that Lagos State Police Command has intensified effort in search of the fleeing suspect.

Donald Trump Denies Making Racist Comments About Nigerians And Their “Huts”

He was reportedly enraged that his travel bans had been held up by US courts and by statistics on the number of people still entering the US from overseas.
Trump said 2,500 had come from Afghanistan “a terrorist haven”, according to the Times.
More than 15,000 came from Haiti where “they all have AIDs”, Trump said according to one source.
And a further forty thousand from Nigeria.
One they were in the United States they would never “go back to their huts”, Trump is alleged to have said.
The President’s team confirmed the meeting but furiously denied he used such language.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said: “General Kelly, General McMaster, Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Nielsen and all other senior staff actually in the meeting deny these outrageous claims.”
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first time Trump has spoken about immigrants in inflammatory terms.
Describing Mexicans who cross the US border he once said: “They are not our friend, believe me.
“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime.
They’re rapists . And some, I assume, are good people.”

"Bigger Thieves Working With President Buhari" - Maina
Maina, who made the allegation also maintained that the anti-corruption fight championed by the Buhari-led government has not achieved result because those around him are lying to him.
Speaking with The Sun, Maina said, “The unfortunate thing is that some people around him (President) whom he has trusted are lying to him. I can attest to this and I can give you instances and documentary evidences. People portray themselves as if they are saints. It is a lie; they are not. We know it and that is why they are after my life.
“Why is it that the former SGF and other big personalities accused of stealing monies, including big personalities in the Villa, nobody is talking about them? Maina who is just a deputy director whom the Minister of Justice has said the DSS has cleared of any wrongdoing.
“The National Security Adviser has cleared me of any wrongdoing. His office has also cleared me. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution has cleared me of any wrongdoing and that I have no case to answer and then a small unit under the ministry will come and start fighting me for N2.1 billion.
“So are we trying to fight corruption in Nigeria or diverting attention by lying to Mr. President? Listen to me, Mr. President would have achieved more than what he has achieved. But because they are lying to Mr. President because they hate Maina, he won’t be able to achieve more.
“You hate me. I know why you hate me. You hate me because I am somebody who is bold. I know how to fetch the money. I know how to follow the money. We have talented people in Nigeria. Let’s start harnessing these talents and stop all these bickering and stuff out of the system. Nigerians have elected a very decent man as president and has given you the trust, please stop lying to him. Speak the truth and let’s move forward. We have so much to recover.”

Tompolo Still Looms Large In The Niger Delta After Being In Underground For 2 Years,
Some reservations
The offence for which the Ibe-ebidouwei of Ijaw nation has become more legendary is that he sold some fictitious buildings and facilities at the Kurutie temporal site of the Nigerian Maritime
University, NMU, Okerenkoko, Delta State, to the Federal Government, pocketing about N13 billion, among other allegations.
A serving Minister from the region actually accentuated the charge, which was faulty, but Tompolo’s refusal to submit himself to the EFFC for investigation on his and other matters over what he termed a “conspiracy” against him compounded his ordeal.
Unknown to many, the ex-militant leader, who accepted amnesty from the Federal Government under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua regime and deepened it with his successor, former President Goodluck Jonathan, had shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari took over power, met with him one-on-one to pledge his loyalty.
In his native Delta state, he was at home with the former governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who sought his assistance on security on waterways of the state. He had his nominees on Delta Waterways and Land Security Committee, DWLSC, and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, gave the Oil Security Facilities Limited, floated by him and others, contract to secure oil pipelines in Delta state.
Federal Government also patronized him through his Global West Vessel Specialist Limited, GWVSL, to the envy of his colleagues, but it was not clear why his relationship with Buhari snapped, as people pointed fingers at him when the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, citing government’s lack of interest to develop the region, restarted hostilities in late 2015 to early 2016.
RNDA threat to expose him
Anybody, who followed Tompolo closely after he accepted amnesty, would know that he had benefited so much from the system to engage it in another armed confrontation. Nevertheless, the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, RNDA, and a coalition of nine militant groups led by self-styled “Major General” Johnmark Ezonebi, insisted that he was the one behind the suspended skirmishes in the region, principally because the EFCC declared him wanted.
In fact, RNDA, which claim to be foot soldiers of Tompolo in his benefactor days, last month, declared, “We know exactly where he (Tompolo) is, even some top federal government officials and the government of Delta state know his whereabouts with top security agents.”
‘In a short while we shall give the names of all those influential supporters to Tompolo and his Niger Delta Avengers with some government officials from the presidency still getting in touch with a man that is under government wanted list,” Ezonebi asserted.
Ijaw behind Tompolo- Oweilaemi
National President of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, led by Mr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi, reacting to the claim by RNDA, declared that the Ijaw nation was behind ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, urging the laptop fraudsters masquerading as militants in the region to leave him alone.
Oweilaemi said, “For the umpteenth time, the Ijaw nation is appealing to the laptop fraudsters masquerading as militants in the region to leave High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alone.”
“They can engage in whatsoever business they so desire for the perpetration of their criminal agenda, but Tompolo’s name should not be dragged in. The Ijaw nation is standing behind him.
“We cannot sacrifice Tompolo this time around unlike the way our forefathers unknowingly sacrificed Maj. Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro to the oppressive Federal Government, which had led to his untimely death in 1968 in the cause of fighting for the survival of the Ijaw nation in Nigeria.
“Tompolo has not done anything bad to be facing the travails he is going through. His only sin we know is because of his resolve to fight for the survival of the oppressed, dejected and criminally marginalised/colonised Niger Delta people in Nigeria.
“The Ijaw nation in particular should be grateful to have a son like him. A threat to Tompolo’s life is a threat to the Ijaw nation,” he stated.
Present-day Adaka Boro
However, RNDA did not go ahead to fulfill its threat, but sources said with the way Ijaw people love Tompolo, it would have been suicidal for any aborigine (s) to take security agents to wherever he is, even if he or she knows his whereabouts.
“What will befall such a person or persons are better imagined than said. I can tell you that it is already accepted in Ijaw land that Tompolo is the modern-day Isaac Adaka-Boroh, nobody born of Ijaw blood will betray him,” a source added.
Why Ijaw people love him
A prominent Gbaramatu-Ijaw leader, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard, said, “Tompolo is an enigma, a rare gem, who despite what is said about him, has a heart of gold geared towards the betterment of his people in Niger Delta.”
“He does not see Gbaramatu kingdom, as his constituency, he sees the entire Ijaw land and Niger Delta as his turf. He goes out of his way, even when the government views him as an enemy to solve problems for government, “Gbenekama added.
His words, “Tompolo is somebody who goes out of his way to do things, which is what endears him to people. Added to all these, he has a heart of forgiveness, when you tell him what people have done or planning against him, he would tell you that you do not have to take all that people say or do against you to heart. And that you have to be able to manage such things because not everybody is expected to say something good about you.”
“His influence cuts across the whole of Niger Delta, if you see some Northerners talk about Tompolo, you think they are talking about a different person other than the Tompolo you know.
Oporoza, Kuritie revolution
“Take a look at Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu kingdom, he has singularly transformed the kingdom, you cannot compare the life in Oporoza to other neighbouring communities, it is far better and it was because of Tompolo.
“Go to the neigbouring Kurutie, he has turned it to a little London, that is the place where they said that they are no buildings and facilities that were sold to NIMASA for the take-off of NMU, Okerenkoko. Even the former governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, at the twilight of his regime, was shocked when he saw the structures on ground by Tompolo for a Diving Institute he was planning.
“But today, the government officials and security agencies, who pretended as if what was done was fraudulent have refused to say the truth that they lied against Tompolo in the first instance,” he asserted.
Gbenekama said, “What has stupefied people about Tompolo is that the person, they described as illiterate and uneducated was the one behind the idea of the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko. What you cannot take away from him is that he is an inspiring leader of his people.”
Maritime varsity, Tompolo’s climax – Omare
Eric Omare, who also maintained he is the national president of IYC, said, “Before the commencement of his travails with the present government, Tompolo has done so much for Ijaw people, particularly those in the western flank and has many loyalists, who believe in his struggle.”
His words, “Even as he went underground, his loyalists are going about executing his vision, so he is very much alive in the minds of the people.”
“The Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, is the height of his struggle for his people and Ijaw nation. It is a milestone for him.
Drop political charges
“Indeed, I appeal to the federal government to drop its politically motivated charges against Tompolo. We all understood why they moved against Tompolo, it was based on false information, he never directed or carried out any attack on oil installations after accepting amnesty as wrongly peddled against him.
“I can tell you as IYC president that most of the security challenges we are facing today in the Niger Delta region would have been solved if Tompolo were to be free. Ask even his enemies, who raised allegations against him, they will tell you if they want to say the truth,” he said.
Omare added, “Even the Ogbe-Ijoh, Aladja crisis that has defied solution until date, Tompolo would have devised a technique to stop the frequent bloodletting because he is a leader both sides respect.”

Outrage As Miss Iraq Takes Selfie With Miss Israel, Family Is Forced To Flee Country.

There was so much anger towards the image in Iraq that Idan’s family was forced to flee the country in fear, Gandelsman told Israeli TV.
She said that ‘people made threats against her and her family that if she didn’t return home and take down the photos, they would remove her (Miss Iraq) title, that they would kill her.’
‘Out of fear, they left Iraq at least until the situation calms down,’ she added, according to the Times of Israel.
Idan, who now lives in the US, had decided to post the picture to show that ‘it’s possible to live together’, Gandelsman said.

Fire leave about 20 people dead at an Illegal refinery In Bayelsa
The Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, security outfits directly in charge of checking illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and illegal refineries, were said to have had knowledge of the camp but allegedly failed to halt its operation.
According to reports, tragedy struck in the camp near the creeks of Ebelebiri and Otuogwe when it exploded on December 5, 2017 and went up in flames. Community sources claimed that an attempt by a woman in the camp to cook noodles, using a stove, sparked the fire that caused the havoc.
An eyewitness described it as tragic, unspeakable and avoidable. “When we got there, I almost vomited. I saw charred remains of people. They were burnt beyond recognition. In some cases, you could only see heads and feet of victims. Despite the burnt bodies, we still met people illegally cooking crude oil there. We thought that security agencies, especially the military, would have taken over the place, but we didn’t meet any security operatives. We only met people who were still refining illegally bunkered crude oil. It was that bad and terrible.”
It was gathered that the camp, allegedly owned by a powerful cartel, had been in operation for a long time. Investigation, however, revealed that the state police command had earlier appealed to security agencies in charge of oil theft, especially the NSCDC and the JTF, to clamp down on the site and arrest the operators. A police source told newsmen that the Commissioner of Police uncovered the existence of the camp through intelligence gathering and warned of dire consequences.
The source said the commissioner had, in September, allegedly dispatched a letter to security commanders in charge of oil theft, appealing to them to treat the matter with urgency. He quoted some parts of the letter as saying, “Information gathered revealed that the presence of ongoing illegal refining of petroleum products such as kerosene, diesel at Ebelebiri and Otuogwe, two communities in the Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State, under the Kolo jurisdiction. “The activities of these criminals constitute economic sabotage to the nation as well as endangering lives and properties as explosion on this pipeline may lead to disaster”.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Tuesday evening that Omarosa had resigned "to pursue other opportunities."
"Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities. Her departure will not be effective until January 20, 2018. We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service," a statement from Sarah Sanders read.
However, recent reports have it that Omarosa, who is of Nigerian descent, was actually fired from the White House.
CNN contributor, April Ryan, claims that Omarosa was fired for acting out. She got shown the door at the White House because Chief of Staff John Kelly "was tired of it," April Ryan told Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday afternoon.

"He was tired of all the drama," she specified.
"Omarosa is a mood changer for the President; she could get in his ear," explained Ryan, who is American Urban Radio Network’s White House Correspondent & Washington Bureau Chief.
Ryan whoi has never liked Omarosa and has always called her a 'coon' added:
Kelly informed Omarosa she was fired on Tuesday night but agreed that it would take effect on January 20, as announced by Sanders. But the firing did not sit well with Omarosa who wanted to know if Trump had signed off on it. When told that Trump had signed off on it, she nonetheless wanted to talk to Trump but Kelly refused. Omarosa then tried to go see Trump in the White House residence without Kelly's approval and she got stopped by security, who alerted Kelly. Kelly, the former Secretary of Homeland Security and a Marine Corps general, told Secret Service to remove her. Omarosa was escorted off the property.

George Clooney gifted 14 of his closest friends $1 million each

George Clooney, 56, reportedly once gifted his closest friends a million dollars each for no reason other than the fact that they were his friends.
One of his best friends Rande Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s husband, revealed this during an interview on US show Headliners. Gerber said Clooney once decided to give back for all the good his friends had done him with the incredible gesture.
The businessman said that Clooney had called the group and said: "Hey, mark September 27th, 2013, on your calendar. Everyone’s going to come to my house for dinner."
Gerber explained that when they arrived, they each received designer black luggage, which was waiting for them on the table.

They opened their suitcases as instructed and what they found was a big stash of cash.
Gerber continued: "We open it up, and it’s a million dollars in $20 bills. Every one of us — 14 of us — got a million dollars. Every single one of us. We’re in shock. Like, what is this? He goes, 'I know we’ve all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don’t have to worry about your kids, you don’t have to worry about, you know, school, you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage.'"
The actor didn't stop there. He went on to announce that in addition to the 1 million dollars, he had also paid all of their taxes so they wouldn't need to pay tax on the money he gifted them.
Gerber said he was uncomfortable taking the money considering that he was a billionaire himself so he pulled Clooney aside and told him he couldn't take it and what Goerge did next was phenomenal.
George told them: "I’m just going to make one announcement. If Rande doesn’t take the million dollars, nobody gets it"
Gerber thought about one of the men in their midst who works in a bar and rides a bicycle to work just to support his family, so he took the money and gave it all to charity.
Now, who doesn't want friends like George Clooney!
