He was reportedly enraged that his travel bans had been held up by US courts and by statistics on the number of people still entering the US from overseas.
Trump said 2,500 had come from Afghanistan “a terrorist haven”, according to the Times.
More than 15,000 came from Haiti where “they all have AIDs”, Trump said according to one source.
And a further forty thousand from Nigeria.
One they were in the United States they would never “go back to their huts”, Trump is alleged to have said.
The President’s team confirmed the meeting but furiously denied he used such language.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said: “General Kelly, General McMaster, Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Nielsen and all other senior staff actually in the meeting deny these outrageous claims.”
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first time Trump has spoken about immigrants in inflammatory terms.
Describing Mexicans who cross the US border he once said: “They are not our friend, believe me.
“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime.
They’re rapists . And some, I assume, are good people.”
