Four New Chemical Elements Was Added To Periodic Table - Science

Four chemical elements have been formally added to the periodic table, completing the scheme’s seventh row.

They are the first to be included in the table since 2011, when elements 114 and 116 were added.

The first true iteration of the table was produced in 1869 by the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev.

The new additions were formally verified by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) on 30 December 2015.

The body announced that a team of Russian and American researchers had provided sufficient evidence to claim the discovery of elements 115, 117 and 118.

IUPAC awarded credit for the discovery of element 113 to a Japanese team at the Riken Institute.

The teams responsible for the discoveries have been invited to come up with permanent names and chemical symbols for the now-confirmed elements.

“The chemistry community is eager to see its most cherished table finally being completed down to the seventh row. IUPAC has now initiated the process of formalising names and symbols for these elements,” said Prof Jan Reedijk, president of the inorganic chemistry division of IUPAC.

New elements can be named after a mythological concept, a mineral, a place or country, a property or a scientist.

After the responsible IUPAC division accepts the new names and two-letter symbols, they will be presented for public review for five months.

The chemistry organisation’s council will then make a final decision.

Madonna’s Son Rocco Ritchie Block Mum From Using Instagram

Rocco Ritchie has deleted his Instagram after reportedly blocking his mum Madonna as their relationship continues to be strained.

The teenage son of the Material Girl and Guy Ritchie, who had 138,000 followers on the photo-sharing website, opted to delete his account amid a reported feud with his mother.

Yesterday it was claimed Rocco, 15, had blocked Madge from seeing his posts, he has now decided to remove his page altogether, according to RadarOnline.

A source previously said: “It’s not a great sign that Rocco is blocking his mum on social media, especially after all the reports that she was embarrassing him with her posts about him.

“It’s even more of a blow because he allows Jacqui [Ainsley, his stepmother] and Guy to still follow him and he follows them back. Hopefully this is just a teenage teething problem.”

The news that Rocco has deleted his account comes amid claims Guy has hired a lawyer to fight for custody of his son.

Rocco is keen to live in London full-time with his father and defied a recent court order to return to New York to be with his mother, and the director is doing his best to support the teenager’s position.

According to TMZ, Rocco – and his father – feel he has a more “stable and loving” home life with Guy, his wife Jacqui and their three children, Rafael, four, Rivka, three, and Levi, 18 months.

The teenager reportedly thinks his ‘Like a Virgin’ singer mother is “too controlling” and doesn’t pay him any real attention.

Because of Rocco’s strong views, Guy has now hired a lawyer and is preparing for a legal battle to keep custody of his son, who left Madonna’s tour a month ago and refused to return to her for Christmas.

A New York judge has ordered Rocco back to the US for a hearing next month.

Insiders told TMZ the former couple don’t get along and Guy used a visit from Rocco to “stoke the coals” when he was angry at Madonna.

The pair are said to clash frequently over the youngster because the 57-year-old singer is strict and “very controlling”.

Despite the drama, the Queen of Pop proudly uploaded a number of loving pictures showing her kids having fun – and sent a message of love to her son.

Sharing a snap of the pair on Instagram alongside the message: “Merry X-mas to the Sun-shine of my Life!”

A rep for Madonna and Guy have been approached for comment.

His condition got worsened as doctors at the hospital tried to save him but could not; he died at about 5:05 am on January 1, 2016.

The motionless body of the hematologist has been deposited at the Tema General Hospital for autopsy.

A member of the church, who pleaded anonymity, told DAILY GUIDE that Prof. Ankrah-Badu was hale and hearty when he went to the church for the watch-night service.

According to the member who also attended the service, the Anglican Priest joined other members of the church in singing and dancing.

However, not long after that, he was seen swooning and so some members rushed to hold him and he was sent to one of the offices where he was revived and joined other worshippers before leaving for the house.

Kenyan Muslims Shield Christians In Mandera Bus Attack

A group of Kenyan Muslims travelling on a bus ambushed by Islamist gunmen protected Christian passengers by refusing to be split into groups, according to eyewitnesses.

At least two people were killed when suspected al-Shabab militants targeted the bus close to the north-eastern village of El Wak on the Somali border.

The bus was travelling from the capital Nairobi to the town of Mandera.

No group has said it carried out the attack.

Al-Shabab has been at war with Kenya ever since Kenyan forces entered Somalia in October 2011 in an effort to crush the militants.

Facebook Turns Away From Flash For Video

Facebook has stopped using Adobe’s Flash technology to show video across the entire social network.

Instead Facebook has developed a video player built around the widely used HTML5 technology.

Games on Facebook would still use Flash, it said, but it was looking into ways to change those too.

The site is one among many that have turned away from Flash. Many see it as a security problem because bugs in it are often exploited by cyber thieves.

Daniel Baulig, a front-end developer at Facebook, said the switch to HTML5 had helped the firm speed up the development of its video-handling system. HTML is the basic computer language underpinning the web.

In addition, he said, the HTML5 video player worked much better with accessibility tools such as screen readers that are used by people who do not see well.

Mr Baulig said it introduced the HTML5 player a while ago for a small number of Facebook members who kept their web browsers up-to-date. It did not launch all at once with HTML5 because testing revealed problems with the new player.

“We noticed that a lot of the older browsers would simply perform worse using the HTML5 player than they had with the old Flash player,” he said. “We saw more errors, longer loading times, and a generally worse experience.”

Facebook ran HTML5 and a Flash-based video player in parallel while it ironed out bugs. Now, the stability of the new video player has persuaded the social network to roll it out by default.

YouTube switched to a HTML5 based player in January 2015 and in September the BBC released an HTML5 version of its iPlayer catch-up TV service. Many other sites now offer alternatives to Adobe’s technology.

I Never Posted A ‘Photoshoped’ Photo – Anamoah

Former TV3 news anchor and presenter, Nana Aba Anamoah, has denied ever posting a ‘Photoshoped’ picture on social media.

Nana Aba was mocked a few months ago over allegations of photo theft after it emerged that pictures she allegedly posted online of her at a Manchester United game were fake.

But speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday, the TV personality said she did no such thing.

“I never ever posted a Photoshoped photo. I don’t even know how to Photoshop.”

She said she didn’t have to Photoshop a picture from Old Trafford if she needed to prove she goes to watch matches there.

“I go to Old Trafford whenever I feel like it. I get free tickets to go watch a match.”

The station, taking the allegations seriously suspended her after days of massive public backlash against the outspoken presenter following her alleged involvement in an “online information and photo theft”.

In a statement Saturday, TV3 said: “After preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3’s own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, Management has decided to take Nana Aba Anamoah off air until further notice.

“As a broadcast network that prides itself in upholding high ethical standards and delivering credible and trustworthy content to its viewers, TV3 would like to assure viewers and other key stakeholders that it shall continue to take all necessary steps to maintain such standards.”

“We expect guardians of our brand particularly employees who we entrust to deliver content on air to our viewers, to ascribe to the company’s values whatever they are.”

The statement added: “TV3 is committed to deliver on its promise of being the First in News and Best in Entertainment”.

But Anamoah said she was “disappointed as a human being” at the decision they made.

“The disappointment is the way my employers handled it” she told Bola.

But she said she would never bear the Network any grudges as a result of what happened.

“I love TV3, I will always love TV3. TV3 gave me an opportunity no media house in Ghana would give me.”
