Sonnie Badu Says Sorry To Yaw Siki

  Sonia
Ghanaian born UK-based gospel artiste, Sonnie Badu has said sorry to former hiplife artiste Yaw Siki.

The “Baba” hitmaker in an interview with Antoine Mensah, host of Lifestyle Cafe, expressed regret for publicly announcing his support for the raper if the he felt embarrassed with his actions.
“My motive was to let him know that we are there for him. It was a touchy subject when he said he depends on money from people when he preaches. My motive was not to embarass him, if that is how he felt I apologize. ”

Last week, Yaw Siki, who is famous for the song ‘Wope Dodo’ told Graphic Showbiz he is not interested in Badu’s offer to help him because he felt that the offer was made public just for human praise and deemed it ‘‘dishonourable’.

“If he truly wanted to assist, he could have contacted me first without making it public. I’m not in support of that because my Christian beliefs are against that so upon careful consideration, I had to turn down the offer.”

Yaw Siki was involved in an accident on the Accra-Tema Motorway with a friend on Monday April 15, 2013, on their way back from Accra.

Their Toyota Camry car somersaulted near the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Dominion Centre. All two were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital. Siki was later admitted and treated for deeps cuts on his head.

He was subsequently discharged after spending some two weeks at the military-run health facility.

In March, 2014, Siki announced via a post on his Facebook wall that he was done with secular music and now a gospel musician.

His then manager, Coaches told this reporter that after Siki’s full recovery he will be doing ‘positive’ music.

“This time around, it’s going to be more positive music. That’s what he is thinking now. Life by R2Bees is an example of positive music,” he said in August 2013.

“He is fine … as in he’s recovering … he’s 80% through with the recovery process. I can say he’s fine compared to how everything started he is fine now,” he added.

Last month, Yaw told Hitz FM’s Gloria Nyarku, he depends on his family and preaching to survive.

“(With) my bills, my family supports me and then when I preach, people give [me money], when I preach I do not ask but when I finish and some people call me, oh take this, take that and all with family support I am able to pay bills.”

“Last year December, I [preached] at the Motorway Roundabout and a man gave me GHc500. That’s the highest I have received so far,” he disclosed.

“I preach in the Trotros (Commercial buses). I preach in between lanes in the communities and you see that people will not give you that big amount for preaching to them but I don’t mind,” Yaw concluded.

US First Lady Michelle Obama Host Missy Elliott & Queen Latifah To Talk About Female Empowerment

Ladies first! Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah joined First Lady Michelle Obama for her Opening Keynote at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday (Mar. 16). During the conversation, Misdemeanor opened up about her female influences.

“People like Queen Latifah, who is sitting on this stage, her album, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa,” said Missy. “These women are the reason I am an MC. I became an artist because of their music. Queen Latifah taught us ‘U-N-I-T-Y,’ she taught us ‘Ladies First.’ Her music has done so much for me.”

The moment was also important for Latifah, who noted the irony of the occasion. “It’s weird to write ‘Ladies First’ and be sitting with the First Lady,” she explained, referencing her 1989 single off All Hail the Queen. “It’s surreal to me.”

The event, which also featured Sophia Bush, follows the release of “This Is for My Girls,” a female empowerment anthem written by Diane Warren, which features Missy, Zendaya, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monáe, Kelly Clarkson, Lea Michele, and more. FLOTUS organized the song to promote her Let Girls Learn initiative and the #62MillionGirls campaign.

During her talk, Obama also shot down rumors that she’s eyeing the presidency as her husband, President Barack Obama, wraps up his final year in office.

“I will not run for president,” she said. “I got these two young people at home. Being the daughters of a president—just think about it. C’mon young people, not so easy! They handled it with grace and poise but enough is enough. There are so many ways to impact the world. You don’t have to be the president of the United States to do wonderful things.”

Ex-Gitmo Detainees’ Families Coming To Ghana

It is emerging that family members of the two ex-Guantanamo Bay detainees brought to Ghana on the orders of the United States government are fighting hard to come into the country to visit them.

They are desperately pushing to enter Ghana at a time the security apparatus has issued a high alert over a possible terrorist attack following the attacks in Grand Bassam in neighbouring Ivory Coast that left about 22 people dead on March 14, 2016.
The arrival of the two Al-Qaeda suspected terrorists – Muhammad Bin Atef, 36, and Khalid Muhammad Salih al-Dhuby, 34 – from the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, has sparked unending and heated debate in the country.

Some security experts have said that the acceptance of the Gitmo 2 ex-detainees which Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Tetteh described as Al-Qaeda foot-soldiers by the NDC government is making Ghana susceptible to terrorist attacks.

Security Alert

President John Mahama, who chaired the National Security Council meeting on Tuesday which reviewed the security situation in the country following the rising insurgency by Al-Qaeda militants in the West African sub-region, especially Mali, Burkina Faso and lately, La Cote d’Ivoire, later emplaned to Scotland.

Saudi Mission

DAILY GUIDE is reliably informed that the Ghana Mission in Saudi Arabia which has oversight responsibility for Yemen where the Gitmo 2 are citizens, had received visa applications from family members of the two men but was said to have referred them to the Foreign Ministry in Accra for clearance.

It is also emerging that the four Yemenis who were arrested for arriving in Ghana with fake visas appeared to have hands in the arrival of the Gitmo 2 former detainees in Ghana.

Government Sources
Government officials have been tightlipped on the issue; however, Deputy Minister of the Interior, James Agalga, recently said on radio that the NDC government could not prevent families of the two former Guantanamo Bay detainees from visiting them in Ghana.

“The decision that was taken was for the two to be admitted into this country. Family members, whether they are Yemenis or whatever, if they have to come to Ghana, there are laid down procedures for the entry of foreigners into the country,” he underscored.

He said that the two would not be denied their freedom of movement such as visiting the mosques, among others, although they would be closely monitored.

US Senators’ Threat

Even though the Mahama-led NDC government had variously insisted that there were no strings – whether financial or otherwise – attached to the deal for Ghana to host the two suspected terrorists, four US senators called on their Appropriations Committee to cut foreign aid to Ghana if the West African country failed to hold and monitor the two former detainees.

The Senators, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Roy Blunt of Missouri, James Lankford of Oklahoma and Steve Daines of Montana, stated this in a letter to State and Foreign Operations and Related Programs Chairman Lindsay Graham and the Appropriations Committee Chairman, Thad Cochran.

A statement on the US Senate website said the Senators requested for a reduction in assistance to Ghana by $10 million per detainee “in the event either of these detainees escapes from confinement or re-engages in terrorism while in Ghana’s custody.”

Their basis was that about 30% of terrorists released from Guantanamo Bay were known or suspected to have returned to their terrorist-related activities.

Fake Visas
The four Yemenis who allegedly arrived with fake French passports, as well as fake visas, have already been remanded in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) by an Accra circuit court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh.

They are Esmail Yahya Zey aka Evra Allerson, Gaafar Eissa Yahya Amer aka Ciro Carlos, Waleed Ahmed Yahya aka Debuchya Allard – all students – and Eissa Yahya Airier, a businessman.

Security Man Defiles Ice Water Seller In Trotro

Kofi Appiah, 20, a security man who defiled a 12-year-old girl in a vehicle at Atomic junction has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Cirucit Court.

Appiah is said to have bought the victim’s sachet water but refused to pay for it so in her bid to collect her money she was defiled by Appiah.

Charged with defilement, Appiah had pleaded guilty before the Court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison.

The court on March 1, deferred Appiah’s sentence to today. Prosecuting Detective Inspector Judith B. Asante had earlier told the court that the complainant is a pantry man who resides at Atomic Junction with his family including the victim.

According to the prosecutor, the accused person is a security man who works at a car park in the same area. On February 23, this year at about 2200 hours the victim was selling sachet water in the neighbourhood, Appiah purchased one and declined to pay.

The victim, according to the prosecutor, insisted on taking her money but Appiah lured her into a parked vehicle and had sex with her. A witness who saw the victim quickly reported the matter to the victim’s parents but Appiah bolted.

The accused was later apprehended and escorted to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU). The victim was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for examination and treatment after which the report was submitted to the Police.
