Tinashe channels Britney. As she gears up for the release of her sophomore album Joyride, the R&B songstress covers Paper magazine’s “Youth Issue,” where she recreates Rolling Stone‘s racy Britney Spears shoot from 1999.
Donning a lacy pink bra, underwear, and silky pink robe, Tinashe stuns while stretched out on pink sheets and holding a pink phone à la Britney. In other shots, she rocks a pink top and shorts by Moschino and a white fur shawl while standing on a diving board. She also dons a feathery yellow dress while whipping up in the kitchen.
In the interview, Tinashe discusses the long-awaited Joyride, demanding respect, and how she deals with industry pressure.

ON HER NEW ALBUM: “You can’t have too many chefs in the kitchen. You have to stay true to your own instincts and just have your own vision. I think that is very important. Otherwise you just get lost in the sauce.”
ON BEING A WOMAN IN THE INDUSTRY: “Especially as a young woman in the industry. A lot of people think, ‘Oh you’re just a cute girl.’ It has nothing to do with your artistry or your heart or work or anything like that. It’s obviously just about what you look like.”
ON CONTROL: “It’s important nowadays to have your own perspective and get involved, because it is such a male-dominated industry. We need to gain back control.”
ON PRESSURE: “I don’t feel pressure to look any way so much as I feel pressure to act a certain way. I feel the pressure to date around. People are always shocked to know that I don’t date around with other celebrities. [But] it’s just not my style. I’m not trying to be well known because of the people I’m dating, or the people that I’m seen with. I’d rather just be known for my music or my art. People will say something crazy like, ‘Why don’t you just go date Justin Bieber and be way more famous?’ I’m like, ‘What?'”
