The groom, whose marriage was called-off, suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive the incident. Although outlawed, celebratory firing at weddings and other events is common in the country, across South Asia and in other regions. Consequently, the police have opened an investigation into the matter.
Station House Officer (SHO) Mandeep Singh told Indian news website ANI: “We have registered a case on the basis of the statement of the injured person’s father.”
An SHO is the term for the person in charge of a police station in India and Pakistan.
