TWO lawyers have been charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
They were arrested after being stopped in a road block on Sunday night.
During a search, they were allegedly found with a marijuana cigarette and a bag containing marijuana.
Attorneys Jason Jackson and Cathy Ann Campaign appeared in court on Monday.
They were not called upon to plea to the indictable offences.
Both were granted bail of $10,000 each.
Jackson, 36 and Campaign, 38, were arrested by members of the Eastern Division Task Force near the Mayaro Junction at around 7.30p.m. on Sunday.
Police claim that during a search, they found the “unusually large” cigarette.
Also allegedly found near the front passenger seat was a bag containing 45 grammes of marijuana and a grinder.
Jackson was charged with the possession of the marijuana cigarette, and because they were held within 500 metres of the Mayaro Government Primary School, he was also charged with trafficking.
Campaign was jointly charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Charges were laid by Constable Versammy.
The defendants were ordered to reappear in court on January 16.
Both can continue with their practice, as a pending criminal charge does not affect their abiity to represent clients.
